Unfortunately I see this all the time. It’s common in this industry to find a company making a decision that is financially based instead of doing what’s in the best interest of their resident/client, etc. Sometimes it’s a very small company struggling to survive. Other times it’s a large company doing whatever they can to hit quarterly numbers. Regardless of the reason, it’s WRONG in every way.

I have had a lot of people move into my facilities from independent living facilities who claim they provide assisted living. One thing is almost always in common with these people, and that is that they should have moved into a better, more supportive environment months ago. Why didn’t they? It’s usually a combination of things. First, it’s always common for someone to not want to move out of their home, and often that home is an apartment in an independent living facility. It’s the responsibility though of the FAMILY and most importantly the facility to say “We love having you here, but we just can’t provide you with enough support for you to safely live here.” Second, unfortunately facilities tend to say that they can still provide adequate care when that’s just not the case.

At the end of the day, you need to be extremely careful when dealing with facilities. If you notice a decline in your loved ones health, make sure that they are in a position to truly provide 24 hour care. And as you have probably already read, 2 HOUR CHECKS DO NOT EQUAL ASSISTED LIVING!

Don’t let a business decide that your money is more important than the health and safety of your loved one! Call them out on it. Or, better yet, let us do that for you!
